It is quite likely the idea of a desert in the context of the Royal Irrigation Canal of Montcada, follows the original territorial configuration of the irrigation in the irrigation canals during medieval times. A close look at the historical documentation of the commune and its ordinances, suggests that these areas of desert are related to the weak presence of extension of rule in a series of territories or demarcations, with respect to seniority ? like Paterna, Montcada, for example ? that more quickly expanded colonial occupation in the post Islamic years and had a greater spread of land irrigated directly by the main canal and its main derivations.
