ALTER

An irrigation area that has a higher topographic position with respect to irrigation by gravity source. For its irrigation, it needs an artificial rising of the level of the water by means of a stop that interrupts the course of water. In the Royal Irrigation Canal of Montcada these are referred to as the plots that are located in the vicinity of the main canal, on its right and on left. In these cases, the highest point is higher than the bottom of the channel and it is necessary to raise the water surface through a break in the main channel bed ? the square ? or execute the irrigation at a time when the derivations of the canal are closed, allowing for the natural elevation of water surface.
