WEIR or DISPERSION DAMN

[From Arabic al-sudd ]. Hydraulic infrastructure in the form of barrier, built with various materials ? land, reeds, wooden or stone mortar, ?, which stops the running speed of a river transversally, raising its level to a certain height in order to derivate some of its flow towards an irrigation ditch or canal. The main dispersion damn or weir in the Royal Irrigation Canal of Montcada consists of a combination, the royal arches and the gorge at the entrance to the main canal.
