L'HORTA HABITADA

WEIR HOUSE or HOUSE OF THE DISPERSION CANAL

Common building located next to the weir (i.e. dispersion canal) of Montcada, on the left bank of the Túria River in the municipality of Paterna. Several times a year the Irrigation Manager and Trustees gather to make decisions and discuss a number of important issues affecting the community. It is also the site of permanent residence of the Keeper of the Weir, who is in charge of the management of the surveillance and control of the weir and the water main irrigation canal input. The current house was built in 1960, replacing the first building used by the municipality since the 17th century, that was destroyed by the flood of Túria in 1957.
