MILL

Set of machinations installed in buildings of traditional architecture, located on the bank of the irrigation channel, that take advantage of the slope of the ground and the force of the water to transform hydraulic energy into mechanical energy that then moves complex machinery. Mills were subject to different types of use depending on their purpose: grind grain, such as “martinet,” batan, etc. The first windmills that are known to have been in the Horta (alluvial agricultural gardens) of Valencia are of the Islamic period, and some of them are referenced in the Book of Allocation. The mills of the Royal Irrigation Canal of Montcada have occupied a very important role in the history of the canal.
