CASTLE TOWNS

Designation of a hydraulic nature that derives from low medieval period and is assigned to the irrigation communities of a series of villages along the River Túria ?Bugarra, Pedralba, Benaguacil, Villamarxant and Ribarroja ? that are found upstream of the weir (dispersion dam) of the Royal Irrigation Canal of Montcada. Since the day after the conquest of Jaume I until the late 19th century, we know that these municipalities were the most direct competitors of the Royal Irrigation Canal of Montcada and the irrigation channels of the river's flow, especially in the periods of drought or strong very low water levels.
