MOTHER IRRIGATION CHANNEL

This refers to the main canal of an irrigation system. The common canal of the Municipality of Montcada is called also the mother irrigation canal or greater irrigation canal. The name Royal Irrigation Canal is related to the arrival of feudal power of James the First to these lands in the 13th century. Then, shortly after the formation of the Kingdom of Valencia, this irrigation canal, which originally had been the King's private land, was recognized by him in the act founding the community of irrigators in 1268, his link with the monarchy despite newly acquired independence.
