THE PROPERTIES OF SOIL

The characteristics and qualities of the soil condition the complex structure of the ecosystems of which is formed the basis that is developed and defined by the use and uses of land by man.

The characteristics of the soil are determined by a number of physical features, such as depth, texture, structure, porosity, density, and water coefficients; for some chemical features, which are specified in values such as the content of carbon in organic matter, calcium, pH, soluble salts etc.; and biological properties such as soil microbial activity and related processes (processes of humification and mineralization of organic matter, biological fixation of nitrogen, hydrolysis, solubilisation of minerals, etc.). Soil qualities are those features which allow for the assessment of the soil drainage, permeability, its plasticity, its fertility, its productivity, ...
